How Can Trigger Point Therapy Help Me?

When you’re living in chronic pain, it can be easy to turn to medication or surgery to find relief. However, many don’t realize that there are natural, effective ways to feel better and get back to living a life you love. At Pain Stop North Phoenix, we specialize in responsible pain management, and trigger point treatments are one of our top ways to help patients.

What is a Trigger Point?

A trigger point, commonly referred to as a “muscle knot,” is a small area of tightly contracted muscle. They’re more than tender muscle spots; they can be very painful and radiate pain throughout the body. They produce pain when compressed, choking off its own blood supply. They’re often the results of an injury, muscle overuse, inflammation, or nerve pain.

How Can Trigger Point Therapy Help?

At Pain Stop North Phoenix, we offer two types of trigger point treatments: injections or trigger point therapy.

Trigger Point Injections: Performed by a medical team, a small needle is inserted into the trigger point with an injection composed of low-dose steroid and a local anesthetic. The steroid is used to reduce inflammation and the anesthetic to reduce the pain. The injection provides pain relief while allowing the muscle to relax and heal. The procedure only takes a few minutes and the pain relief is substantial.

Trigger Point Therapy: Massage therapists perform trigger point therapy. The therapy is performed to identify, treat and ease the source of the pain through a series of isolated pressure and release techniques. The purpose of this therapy is to release constricted areas in the muscle, which in turn alleviates the pain.
